Company intelligence / Profile preview
Vivant Medical was a medical device company focused on developing innovative microwave ablation technologies for the treatment of solid tumors. Its primary product, the VivaWave Microwave Ablation System, utilized high-frequency microwave energy to create large, spherical zones of thermal destruction in diseased tissue, particularly in the liver. This technology was designed to be more efficient and predictable than existing radiofrequency ablation methods. In 2005, the company was acquired by Tyco Healthcare's ValleyLab division for approximately $66 million plus future considerations. The acquisition integrated Vivant's microwave technology into what is now Medtronic's interventional oncology portfolio.
