Company intelligence / Profile preview
VSM MedTech was a Canadian medical technology company primarily known for its leadership in the field of magnetoencephalography (MEG). Through its subsidiary, CTF Systems, the company developed and commercialized high-end MEG scanners that non-invasively measure the magnetic fields produced by neuronal activity in the brain. These systems are critical for functional brain mapping, particularly in the localization of epileptic foci and the identification of eloquent cortex prior to neurosurgery. Beyond neurology, VSM MedTech also developed technologies for fetal magnetocardiography to monitor the heart health of unborn infants. The company's technology utilized highly sensitive Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) sensors to detect extremely weak biomagnetic signals. VSM MedTech was publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange before its core assets were acquired by Natus Medical in 2008.
