VVP Ignite

Versant Ignite is the internal drug discovery engine of Versant Ventures, designed to bridge the gap between academic research and the formation of venture-backed biotechnology companies. Operating out of specialized laboratory facilities in San Diego and Vancouver, the engine provides the infrastructure and expertise necessary to validate early-stage biological targets and develop lead therapeutic candidates. Ignite is staffed by a team of experienced drug hunters and entrepreneurs-in-residence who work closely with academic founders to conduct "killer experiments" that de-risk programs before they receive significant Series A funding. This model allows Versant to build high-conviction companies with well-defined development paths and robust intellectual property. Since its formalization, Ignite has been instrumental in launching several innovative startups across diverse therapeutic areas, including oncology, immunology, and nephrology.
