Vyrex

Vyrex was a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of novel antioxidant therapies to treat diseases associated with oxidative stress and aging. The company's research centered on its proprietary 'Redox' technology, aiming to neutralize free radicals that contribute to conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and reperfusion injury. Founded in 1990 and based in Carlsbad, California, Vyrex was a pioneer in the free radical theory of aging. The company was publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol VYRX following its IPO in 1996. Its lead programs included small molecule antioxidants designed to mimic natural protective enzymes like superoxide dismutase. Vyrex eventually merged with Pharmadigm in 2001 to combine their respective drug delivery and antioxidant technologies.
