WA Institutes for Health

The Western Australian Institutes for Health (WAIH) is a premier medical research consortium and infrastructure management entity based in Perth, Western Australia. Established in 2008 as a strategic partnership between the University of Western Australia, the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research (formerly WAIMR), and the Lions Eye Institute, WAIH was created to oversee the development of world-class research facilities at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre and Fiona Stanley Hospital. Supported by over $200 million in state and federal government funding, the consortium fosters innovation and clinical translation across diverse therapeutic areas, including oncology, ophthalmology, and genetic disorders. WAIH serves as a central hub for biomedical research in Western Australia, facilitating collaborations between academia, government, and industry to advance new medical therapies. Its member institutes maintain a robust pipeline of programs, ranging from pioneering gene therapies for macular degeneration to novel treatments for cancer and cardiovascular disease.
