Wachovia Capital Markets was the corporate and investment banking division of Wachovia Corporation, providing a broad suite of financial services including equity and debt underwriting, mergers and acquisitions advisory, and capital markets products. While the firm was a major player in the financial sector rather than a life sciences company, it maintained a dedicated healthcare investment banking group that advised biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device companies. The firm played a significant role in financing the growth of various healthcare entities through IPOs and private placements during the early to mid-2000s. Following the financial crisis of 2008, Wachovia Corporation was acquired by Wells Fargo, and Wachovia Capital Markets was subsequently integrated into Wells Fargo Securities. Today, the legacy of its healthcare advisory business continues under the Wells Fargo brand.
