Company intelligence / Profile preview
Walgreens Health Initiatives (WHI) was the pharmacy benefit management (PBM) subsidiary of Walgreens. The company provided a comprehensive suite of services including mail-service pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, and health and wellness programs designed for employers, health plans, and third-party administrators. WHI focused on optimizing prescription drug spend and improving clinical outcomes through data-driven health management programs. In 2011, Walgreens sold WHI to Catalyst Health Solutions for $525 million as part of a strategic shift to focus on its core retail pharmacy and specialty pharmacy businesses. Following subsequent industry consolidations, the business eventually became part of OptumRx under UnitedHealth Group.
