Waterfall Scientific

Waterfall Scientific is a Massachusetts-based biotechnology platform company pioneering continuous-flow technologies for mRNA manufacturing. Spun out of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the company commercializes its proprietary DuoTether continuous-flow system, which functionally co-immobilizes the DNA template and RNA polymerase enzyme to a solid surface. This approach enables the continuous synthesis of high-purity mRNA, dramatically reducing double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) impurities and eliminating the need for extensive downstream purification. In September 2026, Waterfall Scientific was awarded up to $54.5 million by ARPA-H to lead the ESCALATOR consortium, aiming to develop a fully automated, benchtop, continuous-flow system for end-to-end, on-demand production of RNA drug products.
