Company intelligence / Profile preview
Welfide Corporation was a Japanese pharmaceutical company established in 1998 through the merger of Yoshitomi Pharmaceutical Industries and Green Cross Corporation. The company specialized in the development and commercialization of therapeutics for the central nervous system, cardiovascular diseases, and immunology. Welfide was notably formed to stabilize the operations of Green Cross following the HIV-tainted blood scandal in Japan, adopting a new corporate identity to move forward. In 2001, Welfide merged with Mitsubishi-Tokyo Pharmaceutical to form Mitsubishi Pharma Corporation, which eventually became part of Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma. During its tenure, the company maintained a robust portfolio of ethical drugs, including the widely prescribed anxiolytic etizolam.
