West Coast Fermentation Center

West Coast Fermentation Center (WCFC) is an environmental biotechnology company that operated as a subsidiary of U.S. Microbics, Inc. Based in Carlsbad, California, the center specialized in the large-scale cultivation of specialized microbial cultures used for bioremediation, agriculture, and industrial waste treatment. The facility housed a microbe laboratory, a pilot plant, and a quality control center, utilizing fermentation technology and combinatorial liquefaction to produce proprietary microbial blends. These engineered microorganisms were designed to degrade toxic pollutants such as hydrocarbons, MTBE, and perchloroethylene in soil and groundwater. Historically, WCFC served as the primary manufacturing arm for its parent company's environmental product lines, including Bi-Agra and Remediline. In 2007, the center's assets and intellectual property were the subject of an acquisition agreement by Sub Surface Waste Management of Delaware to integrate microbial production with field remediation services.
