Overview

Wilson Therapeutics was a Swedish rare-disease biopharmaceutical company focused on developing therapies for copper-mediated disorders, primarily Wilson disease. The company’s lead and essentially sole program was Decuprate, also known as WTX101 and later ALXN1840, an oral small-molecule copper-binding agent designed to remove excess copper from the body. Wilson Therapeutics advanced the asset into Phase 3 development before agreeing to be acquired by Alexion in 2018. Following the acquisition, the company ceased operating as an independent public biotech and became part of Alexion’s rare disease organization, which was later acquired by AstraZeneca.
