Winnipeg Rh Institute

The Winnipeg Rh Institute is a foundational Canadian biotechnology organization established in 1969 to develop treatments for Rh-related blood disorders. The Institute is most notable for the development of WinRho (Rh immune globulin), a life-saving biologic used to prevent hemolytic disease of the newborn and treat immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Its research and manufacturing operations laid the groundwork for the Canadian plasma products industry and led to the spin-off of Cangene Corporation. Currently, the entity operates as the Rh Institute Foundation, managing intellectual property royalties and funding advanced medical research at the University of Manitoba.
