Wits Health Consortium

Wits Health Consortium (WHC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, established to manage the commercial and research activities of the Faculty of Health Sciences. The organization operates as a premier clinical research management entity in Africa, providing essential infrastructure, financial administration, and human resources support for large-scale health projects. WHC hosts several world-renowned research units, including the Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) and the Vaccines and Infectious Diseases Analytics (VIDA) Research Unit. It plays a pivotal role in global health by conducting Phase 1 through Phase 4 clinical trials for international pharmaceutical companies and donor organizations. WHC is a key partner for major global health stakeholders such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the NIH, and USAID, focusing heavily on infectious diseases and maternal health.
