Women on Waves

Women on Waves is a Dutch non-profit organization that provides reproductive health services, particularly medical abortions and contraception, to women in countries with restrictive abortion laws. Founded in 1999 by physician Rebecca Gomperts, the organization is well-known for its use of a specially equipped ship to provide services in international waters, where local laws do not apply. In addition to its maritime operations, the group focuses on advocacy, education, and the distribution of abortion pills via mail through its sister organization, Women on Web. Their primary medical protocol involves the use of mifepristone and misoprostol for non-surgical pregnancy termination.
