Xcelia

Xcelia was the specialized cell therapy division of the Spanish pharmaceutical company Almirall, focused on the development and commercialization of regenerative medicine products. Launched in 2011, the unit aimed to leverage advanced cell-based therapies to treat conditions with high unmet medical needs, particularly in musculoskeletal and dermatological health. Its portfolio included programs for bone regeneration, cartilage repair in osteoarthritis, and chronic wound healing. However, following Almirall's strategic shift to focus primarily on medical dermatology, the Xcelia unit's activities were scaled back or discontinued. During its peak, Xcelia represented Almirall's entry into the high-growth field of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs).
