Company intelligence / Profile preview
Xcellerex was a pioneering Massachusetts-based biotech equipment/platform company specializing in flexible single-use biomanufacturing solutions such as the FlexFactory™ system and XDR™ disposable stirred-tank reactors. These innovations revolutionized how vaccines and biologic drugs are manufactured globally by offering scalable “factory-in-a-box” capabilities that improved speed-to-market while reducing capital costs compared with traditional stainless-steel plants. While it provided some custom contract development/manufacture services—and participated with partners like Dowpharma/Pfenex—it did not maintain its own clinical-stage drug pipeline but instead enabled many others’ pipelines through its technology platforms. Acquired by GE Healthcare Life Sciences in May 2012—and now part of Cytiva—the legacy continues within one of life science’s largest suppliers.
