Xechem International

Xechem International was a biopharmaceutical company primarily focused on the development of natural product-based therapies for orphan diseases and oncology. The company is best known for developing Nicosan (also known as Hemoxin), a phytomedicine derived from traditional Nigerian medicinal plants for the treatment of sickle cell disease. Xechem also engaged in the production of generic paclitaxel and other anti-cancer compounds using proprietary extraction technologies. Despite the commercial launch of Nicosan in Nigeria and efforts to bring it to the global market, the company faced significant financial distress and internal management conflicts. Xechem International filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2008 and subsequently ceased major operations.
