Xelect

Xelect is a Scottish aquaculture genetics company that provides breeding programme management, genomics services, and laboratory testing for fish, shrimp, and shellfish producers. Founded as a University of St Andrews spin-out, the company helps aquaculture clients improve growth, survival, resilience, and other commercially important traits through selective breeding, genotyping, bioinformatics, and decision-support software. Its offerings include breeding programme design, genomic selection support, pedigree reconstruction, sex determination, ploidy analysis, and related laboratory services. Xelect also develops proprietary software and modeling tools, including Optimate and Ximulate, to optimize breeding decisions and manage genetic diversity. The company is commercially operating and, since December 2023, has been part of Genus plc.
