Company intelligence / Profile preview
Xenogen Corporation was a pioneer in the field of in vivo molecular imaging, providing systems and software that allowed researchers to visualize biological processes in living animals. The company's flagship technology, the In Vivo Imaging System (IVIS), utilized bioluminescence and fluorescence to track gene expression, pathogen spread, and tumor growth in real-time. Xenogen also developed a suite of proprietary light-producing animal models and reagents, such as LPT (Light Producing Transgenic) mice and Bioware cell lines. Its technologies became standard tools in drug discovery and development for monitoring efficacy and toxicity non-invasively. The company was acquired by Caliper Life Sciences in 2006 for approximately $226 million. Today, the legacy of Xenogen's technology continues as part of the Revvity (formerly PerkinElmer) preclinical imaging portfolio.
