Xintek

Xintek is a medical technology company specializing in the development of carbon nanotube (CNT) based field emission X-ray sources. Founded as a spin-off from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the company pioneered the use of CNTs to create "cold cathode" X-ray tubes, which offer significant advantages over traditional thermionic filaments, including smaller size, faster switching, and the ability to create multi-beam arrays. This technology platform enables advanced medical imaging applications such as stationary digital breast tomosynthesis (s-DBT), which improves breast cancer screening by eliminating motion blur and reducing radiation dose. Xintek commercializes its innovations primarily through XinRay Systems, a joint venture with Siemens Healthineers, and continues to develop new applications in preclinical micro-CT and dental imaging.
