Xtent was a medical device company that developed the Custom NX Drug-Eluting Stent (DES) system, designed to treat customized lesion lengths with a single device. The platform allowed clinicians to customize the length of the stent and the drug dose at the point of care, potentially reducing the need for multiple stents and improving procedural efficiency. Despite reaching Phase 3 clinical trials (EXCEL trial) and receiving CE Mark, the company faced financial challenges and regulatory delays in the US, leading to its liquidation and the sale of its intellectual property to Biosensors International in 2009. The company's technology aimed to minimize 'geographic miss' and optimize drug delivery in complex coronary lesions.
