Company intelligence / Profile preview
Yantai Medgenn Bio-engineering is a Chinese biotechnology company primarily recognized for the development of Endostar, a novel recombinant human endostatin. Founded in the Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone, the company focused on pioneering anti-angiogenic therapies for cancer treatment. Endostar received approval from the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) of China in 2005 for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer, representing a significant achievement in domestic drug innovation. In 2006, the company was acquired by Simcere Pharmaceutical Group for approximately 198 million RMB, which at the time was one of the largest acquisitions in the Chinese biotech sector. Following the acquisition, the company's operations were integrated into Simcere, where it continues to serve as a specialized manufacturing and research base for biological products. The company's success with Endostar established it as a key player in the early wave of innovative Chinese biopharmaceutical firms.
