Young People’s Project

The Young People's Project (YPP) is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 by the children of civil rights leader Bob Moses, growing out of the Algebra Project. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, YPP focuses on math literacy and STEM education for students from traditionally marginalized communities, utilizing a "near-peer" mentoring model where high school and college students are trained as Math Literacy Workers to teach younger peers. The organization is a strategic partner for major life science companies like Biogen and Takeda, which fund YPP initiatives to diversify and strengthen the STEM workforce pipeline. Through programs like Flagway and the Computational Thinking Lab, YPP empowers young people to become leaders and advocates for education reform while building technical skills essential for careers in the biotech and healthcare sectors. Its work is central to the Biogen STAR Initiative, which aims to catalyze the growth of STEM ecosystems in local school districts.
