ZARS Pharmaceuticals was a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of topically administered drugs using proprietary drug delivery technologies. The company's primary platform, Controlled Heat-Assisted Drug Delivery (CHADD), utilized controlled heat to enhance the delivery of drugs through the skin. Their lead commercial product, Pliaglis, is a topical local anesthetic cream used for superficial dermatological procedures. ZARS also developed Synera, a topical patch for needle-related pain, and various other treatments for chronic pain conditions. The company was acquired by Nuvo Research in 2011 to expand their portfolio of pain management and dermatology products.
