Zenpep is a commercial-stage pharmaceutical brand and business unit of Nestlé Health Science, specializing in pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT). The product is FDA-approved for the treatment of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) caused by conditions such as cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, and pancreatectomy. Zenpep consists of a porcine-derived mixture of digestive enzymes, including lipases, proteases, and amylases, which assist in the breakdown of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. Originally developed by Eurand and later owned by Allergan, the Zenpep business was acquired by Nestlé Health Science in 2020 to satisfy regulatory requirements during the AbbVie-Allergan merger.
