Zygogen

Zygogen was a biotechnology company specializing in the use of zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a model organism for drug discovery and development. Founded in 1999 and based in Atlanta, Georgia, the company developed proprietary technologies such as Z-Tag and Z-Screen to visualize and quantify biological processes in vivo. Zygogen provided screening services and collaborative research to pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners, focusing on areas like angiogenesis, cardiovascular health, and toxicology. The company's platform allowed for high-throughput, cost-effective screening of small molecules in a vertebrate system. In 2008, Zygogen was acquired by Phylonix Pharmaceuticals, another leader in zebrafish-based drug discovery.
