Zymark Corporation was a pioneer and leader in the field of laboratory automation and robotics, specifically tailored for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, the company developed the first laboratory robot, the Zymate, which revolutionized sample preparation. Its product line expanded to include high-throughput screening systems, liquid handling workstations, and microplate handlers like the Twister. In 2003, Zymark was acquired by Caliper Life Sciences for approximately $60 million, integrating its robotics expertise with Caliper's microfluidics technology. Today, Zymark's legacy continues through the laboratory automation portfolios of Revvity (formerly PerkinElmer).
