Drug intelligence / Profile preview
α-BCMA-CAR-IL15 NK cells is an allogeneic chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) natural killer (NK) cell therapy engineered to express a CAR targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) along with interleukin-15 (IL-15) co-expression. Developed by researchers at the University of Ottawa, National Research Council Canada, Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), and McMaster University, this cell therapy is designed to treat multiple myeloma. The co-expression of IL-15 is critical for the persistence and therapeutic efficacy of the CAR-NK cells. In preclinical models, the therapy demonstrated potent cytotoxicity and sustained elimination of multiple myeloma in the bone marrow, although it showed limited efficacy against extramedullary disease.
