α-mangostin hydrogel film

α-mangostin hydrogel film is a mucoadhesive topical formulation developed by Universitas Padjadjaran for the treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). The active ingredient, α-mangostin, is a natural xanthone compound isolated from the pericarp of the mangosteen (*Garcinia mangostana L.*) and is known for its potent anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. To address the poor water solubility of α-mangostin and the challenge of saliva washout in the oral cavity, the drug is incorporated into a mucoadhesive hydrogel film composed of a chitosan-alginate polymer base. This delivery system protects the oral ulcer, ensures prolonged contact with the lesion, and facilitates localized drug release. Clinical evaluation focuses on the reduction of ulcer diameter and pain relief as measured by Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores.
