Overview

α1-18-corticotropin is a synthetic analogue of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), specifically comprising the first 18 amino acids of the ACTH peptide, with D-serine at position 1, lysine at position 17, and lysine amide at position 18. It has been studied for its adrenocorticotrophic effects and demonstrates a prolonged duration of action compared to other ACTH analogues such as tetracosactrin depot. Unlike some depot formulations, its extended activity is attributed to decreased degradation in circulation rather than delayed release from the injection site. The compound is effective after intramuscular, subcutaneous, and even intranasal administration. Its mechanism involves agonism of the adrenocorticotropic hormone receptor on adrenal cortex cells, stimulating corticosteroid synthesis[4].
