αIR3 is a mouse monoclonal antibody (IgG1) that specifically binds to and neutralizes the human insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R). It functions by blocking the binding of IGF-1 and IGF-2 to the receptor, thereby inhibiting downstream signaling pathways such as PI3K/Akt and MAPK. While primarily used as a research tool to study cancer cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest in various malignancies (including lung, breast, and hepatocellular carcinoma), it has also been observed to exhibit paradoxical IGF-1 mimetic activity and can induce receptor internalization and down-regulation. It is widely available as a laboratory reagent but has not transitioned into clinical development as a therapeutic agent.
