This synbiotic combination consists of the prebiotic β-glucan, a non-starch polysaccharide typically derived from oats, and the probiotic *Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus* GG (ATCC 53103). It is being investigated as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) for the oral treatment of gut dysbiosis associated with cystic fibrosis (CF). The therapy works by modulating the gut microbiota to restore microbial balance, which is often disrupted in CF patients due to frequent antibiotic use and altered intestinal physiology. In vitro studies using the Simulator of the Human Intestinal Microbial Ecosystem (SHIME®) have demonstrated that this synbiotic increases the production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), such as butyrate and propionate, and promotes the growth of health-associated bacteria like *Faecalibacterium* and *Agathobacter*. Simultaneously, it has been shown to reduce the abundance of potentially pathogenic genera, including *Veillonella*, *Klebsiella*, and *Stenotrophomonas*. While the combination shows superior efficacy compared to its individual components in preclinical models, it currently remains in the research phase pending in vivo validation.
