Overview

γδ T cell therapy is an autologous adoptive cellular immunotherapy developed by Fuda Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). γδ T cells are a distinct subset of T lymphocytes that recognize tumor cells through MHC-independent mechanisms, primarily via the recognition of phosphoantigens and stress-induced ligands such as MICA and MICB. This allows them to exert potent cytotoxic effects against a variety of tumor types without the requirement for HLA matching. In clinical practice at Fuda Cancer Hospital, these cells are typically administered intravenously to patients following tumor-debulking procedures like cryosurgery. The therapy is often evaluated in combination with Dendritic Cell-Cytokine Induced Killer (DC-CIK) cells to enhance the anti-tumor immune response, particularly in NSCLC patients who do not harbor EGFR mutations.
