Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Йод-Актив (Iod-Activ) is a dietary supplement developed by the Russian company Diod as a source of organic iodine to address iodine deficiency and support thyroid health. The active component is iodocasein, which consists of iodine covalently bound to the milk protein casein. This formulation is marketed as "smart iodine" because its absorption is regulated by the body's physiological needs: in the presence of iodine deficiency, liver enzymes (produced in response to the deficiency) cleave the iodine from the protein for absorption, whereas excess iodine remains bound to the protein and is excreted. It was developed in collaboration with the Medical Radiological Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, based on research into thyroid disease prevention following the Chernobyl accident.
