∆gD-2 is an investigational herpes simplex virus (HSV) vaccine that deletes the gene encoding glycoprotein D (gD) from HSV-2, producing a live, replication-defective virus that elicits a strong Fc receptor–activating, non‑neutralizing antibody response against HSV-1 and HSV-2. By inducing robust antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), the vaccine promotes clearance of infected cells, prevents establishment of latency, and has demonstrated broad protection against diverse HSV-1 and HSV-2 isolates in preclinical models. Developed by X-Vax Technology as a prophylactic herpes vaccine candidate, ∆gD-2 is being advanced toward early-phase clinical evaluation in healthy adults at risk of HSV infection.[1]
