Overview
八宝丹 (Babao Dan) is an approved compound traditional Chinese medicine developed by Xiamen Traditional Chinese Medicine Factory. It is formulated with rare and precious ingredients including Calculus Bovis (牛黄), Snake Gall (蛇胆), Saigae Tataricae Cornu (羚羊角), Margarita (珍珠), Notoginseng Radix Et Rhizoma (三七), and Moschus (麝香). It is clinically indicated for clearing heat, removing dampness, promoting blood circulation, resolving toxicity, and relieving pain, and is approved in China for the treatment of damp-heat jaundice, infectious viral hepatitis, acute cholecystitis, and acute urinary tract infections. Preclinical and patent-stage research also suggests its potential therapeutic utility in primary sclerosing cholangitis, alcoholic liver injury, meningitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, secondary bacterial infection after influenza, IL-6 cytokine storm diseases, obesity, cisplatin-resistant gastric cancer, sepsis, and chronic kidney disease. Its mechanism of action is associated with the modulation of the NF-κB-UPS signaling pathway and the inhibition of the IL-6 cytokine storm.
