Drug intelligence / Profile preview
(-)-FCF (also known as (-)-fencamfamine) is a small molecule psychostimulant and the active enantiomer of fencamfamine, a Schedule IV dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor originally developed by Merck KGaA. (-)-FCF is being developed by Praxis Bioresearch as the active moiety of PRX-P4-003, a gut-activated prodrug designed to be cleaved by pancreatic lipase in the small intestine. This selective oral activation mechanism is intended to prevent abuse via non-oral routes (such as intravenous injection or inhalation). The drug is primarily in clinical development for the treatment of apathy associated with Alzheimer's disease, and is also being explored for other neuropsychiatric indications including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), binge eating disorder, frontotemporal dementia, and traumatic brain injury.
