Overview

**(R)-9-palmitic acid hydroxystearic acid** is the R-enantiomer of 9-palmitic acid hydroxy stearic acid (9-PAHSA), a fatty acid ester of a hydroxy fatty acid (FAHFA) formed by esterification of palmitic acid with 9-hydroxystearic acid.[1][3][8] FAHFAs, including 9-PAHSA, are endogenous lipids found in mammals that exhibit antidiabetic and anti-inflammatory activities, acting as signaling lipids that improve glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity and reduce inflammatory responses.[1][3][5][8] The R stereoisomer is the predominant endogenous configuration in adipose tissue and is produced and degraded via stereospecific biosynthetic and hydrolytic enzymes, including adipose triglyceride lipase as a biosynthetic enzyme and carboxyl ester lipase with preference for the S isomer.[1] (R)-9-PAHSA is primarily used as a research chemical and molecular tool in lipid biology, metabolism, and inflammation studies, rather than as a therapeutic drug product.[1][2][3][5][7][8]
