Overview

(R)-retro-thiorphan is a synthetic small molecule and a structural analog of thiorphan. It features a benzyl group and a sulfanyl moiety attached to an amino acid backbone. The compound is known as an inhibitor of neprilysin (neutral endopeptidase), an enzyme involved in the degradation of various bioactive peptides such as enkephalins and natriuretic peptides. By inhibiting neprilysin, retro-thiorphan can increase the levels of these peptides, potentially modulating pain perception or cardiovascular function. Its primary use has been in biochemical research to study the role of neprilysin in physiological processes[1][6].
