(RWQWRWQWR)2K-Ahx-RRWQWR is a synthetic hybrid dimeric-monomeric peptide designed for anticancer activity, specifically targeting cervical cancer. Developed by researchers at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, the molecule's design is based on the palindromic sequence RWQWRWQWR, derived from bovine lactoferricin (LfcinB), which is known for its anticancer properties. This specific variant (Code 18) features a dimeric core of the palindromic sequence branched on a lysine residue, linked via a 6-aminohexanoic acid (Ahx) spacer to the hexapeptide RRWQWR. Its mechanism of action involves electrostatic interactions between its cationic arginine residues and the negatively charged components of cancer cell surfaces, followed by membrane disruption or internalization. In vitro studies demonstrate significant cytotoxic activity against HeLa and Ca Ski cervical cancer cell lines, with a rapid effect observed within two hours.
