Drug intelligence / Profile preview
(S)-DES-ME-AMPA is a synthetic small molecule and structural analog of AMPA ((RS)-α-amino‑3‑hydroxy‑5-methyl‑4-isoxazolepropionic acid), which is a specific agonist for the AMPA subtype of ionotropic glutamate receptors. These receptors mediate fast excitatory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. The compound’s IUPAC name is (2S)-2-amino‑3-(3‑oxo‑2,3-dihydro‑1,2–oxazol–4–yl)propanoic acid. It has been studied primarily as an experimental tool to probe glutamatergic signaling and receptor pharmacology[1][6]. There are no known approved therapeutic indications or commercial formulations for this compound.
