Drug intelligence / Profile preview
0.25% EISO mouth rinse is an investigational botanical drug candidate developed by Santalis Pharmaceuticals for the prevention and treatment of radiation-induced oral mucositis in patients with head and neck cancer. The formulation consists of 0.25% (w/w) Rectified East Indian Sandalwood Oil (EISO) as the active ingredient in an alcohol-free mouth rinse. EISO possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which are believed to be mediated through the inhibition of phosphodiesterases (PDE), particularly PDE4 and PDE7, thereby suppressing the activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) and the subsequent production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. The drug has been evaluated in an open-label, proof-of-concept Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT02399228).
