Drug intelligence / Profile preview
0.9% saline solution nasal spray is an isotonic sterile aqueous solution of sodium chloride (0.9% w/v) formulated for intranasal administration. In clinical trials, such as the Phase 1 study led by Rupert Lanzenberger at the Medical University of Vienna investigating intranasal esketamine's effects on attentional brain networks, it is commonly utilized as an inert placebo comparator. As a placebo, it contains no pharmacologically active ingredients other than sodium chloride and water, lacks a specific biological target, and serves as a blinded control to assess the efficacy and safety of active intranasal therapeutics.
