Overview

The 04-05 Trivalent Influenza Vaccine-Kaiser Permanente-influenza refers to the specific seasonal trivalent influenza vaccine (TIV) formulation used during the 2004-2005 Northern Hemisphere flu season, particularly within the context of a clinical trial sponsored by Kaiser Permanente (NCT00133237). This inactivated vaccine was designed to provide prophylactic protection against three strains of the influenza virus: two Influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and one Influenza B lineage. The vaccine works by introducing viral hemagglutinin (HA) antigens to the immune system, stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies that block the virus from attaching to and entering host cells. In the Kaiser Permanente study, the vaccine was evaluated to determine the optimal dosing schedule (one versus two doses) for immunogenicity and safety in children aged 5 to 8 years who were receiving their first influenza vaccination.
