Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**1-aminoindan** is a small bicyclic amine (C9H11N), existing as a racemic mixture of (R)- and (S)-enantiomers. The (R)-enantiomer is pharmacologically active and is a metabolite of rasagiline, an approved antiparkinsonian agent. 1-aminoindan demonstrates neuroactive properties and has been researched for its modulatory effects on catecholamine levels in the brain[8][2]. It is not in standard pharmaceutical use alone, but is relevant as a precursor or metabolite in medicinal chemistry and as a reference standard.
