Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**1-Androstenediol** is a synthetic anabolic steroid and prohormone of 1-testosterone (Δ¹-DHT). It is structurally classified as a C19 steroid hormone and acts primarily by being converted in the body to the potent anabolic androgen 1-testosterone through enzymatic reactions involving both 17-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases and 3-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases. The resulting metabolite binds to androgen receptors and activates signaling pathways that promote muscle growth and other masculinizing effects. It has been used as a dietary supplement for its potential anabolic properties but is now banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency due to its relation to anabolic steroids. There are no approved medical indications or strong scientific evidence supporting its use for any condition[1][6].
