Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**1-deoxymannojirimycin** is a small molecule inhibitor of class I α-mannosidase enzymes. It acts as a competitive and selective inhibitor of α-mannosidase I in the N-glycan processing pathway within the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. By inhibiting this enzyme's activity at nanomolar concentrations (IC50 ≈ 0.02 μM), it blocks the biosynthesis of complex-type oligosaccharides on glycoproteins and disrupts N-linked glycosylation[4][7][10]. This inhibition can induce ER stress in human cells[7]. The compound has demonstrated antiviral activity; derivatives have shown anti-HIV effects[1][2]. It is primarily used as an experimental tool in biochemical research to study glycoprotein processing and viral replication mechanisms.
