1-Epilupinine (ELP) is a quinolizidine alkaloid and a stereoisomer of lupinine, primarily found in plants of the genus *Lupinus*. It is currently being investigated for its potential therapeutic application in early-stage dementia and neurodegenerative diseases. Preclinical research indicates that 1-epilupinine possesses neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties, demonstrated by its ability to reverse cognitive deficits and reduce the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), Interferon gamma (IFN-γ), Interleukin-2 (IL-2), and Interleukin-23 (IL-23), in the prefrontal cortex of scopolamine-induced dementia mouse models. Notably, the compound appears to improve cognitive function without adversely affecting motor activity or anxiety levels.
