Overview
1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-3-arachidonoyl-rac-glycerol (C57H100O6) is a specific triacylglycerol identified as a key protective mediator in the arachidonate 15-lipoxygenase (ALOX15) pathway within lung endothelial cells. Research presented at AHA 2025 demonstrates that this lipid is naturally induced during innocuous lung thrombosis and serves to inhibit lung endothelial apoptosis and mitigate inflammatory responses. In preclinical studies, exogenous delivery of this lipid reversed sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI) and inflammation in ALOX15-deficient mice. It is currently being investigated by researchers at the University of South Carolina and Northwestern University as a novel therapeutic approach for treating acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and other forms of inflammatory lung injury.
