Drug intelligence / Profile preview
10-deacetylbaccatin III (10-DAB) is a taxane diterpenoid and a primary chemical precursor used in the semi-synthesis of the anti-cancer drugs paclitaxel and docetaxel. It is naturally occurring and typically extracted from the needles of the European yew (Taxus baccata) or other Taxus species. Hainan Yew Pharm is a major producer of 10-DAB, utilizing its extensive yew plantations to supply the pharmaceutical industry with this high-purity intermediate. While 10-DAB itself is not typically used as a standalone therapeutic agent, its availability is critical for the production of microtubule-stabilizing chemotherapy treatments used in various malignancies, including breast, ovarian, and lung cancers. The compound serves as the structural core for the taxane class of antineoplastic agents.
